The educational programme is addressed to children aged 9-15 years old (5th to 6th grade of Primary School, A’ to C’ grade of Middle School), and aims to bring young pupils in contact with archaeology and the excavation of an archaeological site, in order to better understand the societies of the past through their material remains and to raise awareness about the protection of our cultural heritage. Pupils are encouraged to discover new skills such as observation, critical and synthetic thinking, group coordination, new knowledge about material culture and appreciation of even the smallest material remains. Various excavation procedures will be presented and discussed, such as the techniques and tools of an excavation, excavation documentation, the use of sieve and water-sieve, as well as the classification and dating of ancient pottery.
